Using Blogs and Podcasts in Special Education Training

Special Education Services, Alabama Department of Education trains local school systems, students and parents on special education topics.

The state department of education and the local education agencies have experienced significant financial shortfalls over the last few years. It is clear new approaches must be utilized given the financial situation and the technologies that are now available.  I am hoping our section can begin to use blog(s) to distribute important updates.  In addition it is hoped we can strategically use sound, images, and video through podcasting to distribute information.

Exciting Day at ALSDE...

Alabama Course of Study
The State Board of Education opted NOT to rescind the course of study standards for mathematics and language arts.

Governor Bentley and Board Members Stephanie Bell and Betty Peters proposed rescinding the current course of study standards that are based on Common Core State Standards. Instead of rescinding the standards, the board voted 6-3 to pass a resolution to move forward with the common standards.  The resolution passed includes an admonishment for any efforts by the federal government to control or influence standards.

Also, Dr. Tommy Bice was named Superintendent!
